Questions for Sunday, November 8th Sermon Why We Should Be Thankful
- I Chronicles 29:12-14 says, “Wealth and honor come from you…We give you thanks and praise your glorious name…Everything comes from you (God)”. We are to thank Gid for His many blessings. What are some of the blessings you received or are receiving from God that you can think of? How often do you pause to give God thanks for these blessings?
- Paul wrote: “I always thank God for you” (1 Corinthians 1:4). Who are some of the people in your life that you thank God for? What impact does each have on your relationship with God?
- We are admonished in James 1:2-3 to “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance”. How difficult it is for you to thank God when you are faced with trials, or is it? Can you think of a time when you were faced with a difficult situation and you were able to trust God and came out victorious? What was the experience like?
- 2 Corinthians 9:15 Paul expressed thankfulness to God for Jesus who he referred to as “God’s indescribable Gift”. Based on your experience with Jesus, what are some of the terms that you can think of that could best describe who He is to you and your relationship with Him? What does this “Gift” mean for you and the way you are expected to live as a Christian?
- You are to thank God for His continued presence and power in your life. Matthew 28:18, 20 tells us that “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age”. How confident are you of God’s presence in your life? We are to live in the presence of God always, but can you think of a time when you especially felt protected by God’s presence and what was this experience like? What can you say to someone who is living without the awareness of the presence of God?
