Going Deeper: Reflection on, and Application of This Week’s Message on “The Church Reaching”. Luke 4:14-21

  • How many things can you name that exist only for the benefit of other things? What profession can you think of that has a motto which solely focuses on others?
  • Jesus summed up His cause by reading from Isaiah’s prophecy and then He added this statement: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing”. Identify the various human conditions that Jesus mentioned in Luke 4:18, (Isaiah 61:1-2a). Was there a time when you experienced any of these conditions? What has Christ done for you?
  • If there are still persons in these conditions, how can we identify them? How can you make them aware that Jesus is the One who is able to bring about the change they need?
  • What would you say are some risks associated with reaching people for Christ? What are the rewards?
  • Jesus used a portion of Scripture that applied to Himself as he made His cause known. Think of some Scriptures that you believe clearly describe your desire for God and your commitment to Him. Be determined to live this out daily.
